Subjective, Not Objective

Just some notes before I start up a new blog for a new year this Thursday. First, unlike last year, where I tried to review EVERY movie I saw (which is very difficult when you see 420+ movies in one year) I will be reviewing new releases only, although I may occasionally review a movie on DVD if I feel it warrants it (for better or worse). Secondly, and most importantly, let's cut the BS; critics can talk all they want about how reviewing movies is an objective job. But we all know this isn't true. If reviewing movies truly was objective, then all movies would get the exact same reviews. But the truth is you can't look at movies objectively, because movies are art. The effect a movie has on you can be affected by countless things; from major things such as your opinion of the director or stars, to something as minor as what kind of attitude you're in when you sit down in the theater. I make this rant in regards to comments; as much as I like getting them, I really don't care if you "totally fucking agree with me, that review was dead on" or "you're fucking stupid, that movie is genius and if you can't see that you should go crawl in a shallow pit and die." Again, being of the computer age, I like seeing those comment numbers rise, but I would PREFER, if you want to comment, if you could give your opinion on my writing style. As i'm trying to improve as a critic and a screenwriter at the same time, any criticisms you can give would be appreciated, positive or negative.

Introduction

It's time to try again. I got through August last year, and then got...sidetracked or something. But FYI I just hit 400 movies for 2008. Will be updating here starting 01/01/09!
